Cross Roads Mourns the Loss of Council Member Greg Gaalema

Greg Gaalema

The Town of Cross Roads is saddened by the loss of Council Member Greg Gaalema late last week.  Council Member Gaalema was first elected on November 3, 2020, and subsequently re-elected in May 2022.  Gaalema made his home in Cross Roads for the past 12 years, faithfully serving as a Council Member for the last three.  Gaalema was passionate about the financial well-being of the community, with a focus on maintaining the Town’s no ad-valorem tax position.  He also served as the Vice-President of the Cross Roads Municipal Development District.  Prior to being elected to the Town Council, Gaalema served on the Town’s Comprehensive Land Use Plan Update Committee in 2013 and 2019.  Gaalema suffered a health scare earlier this year and was well on his way to a full recovery at the time of his passing.

“I consider Greg a true friend and I mourn his loss along with many others in the community.  Less than two weeks ago I had a long visit with him, and he was excited about his recovery and plans for the future,” said the Town of Cross Roads Mayor, T. Lynn Tompkins, Jr.  “To hear of his unexpected passing has been devastating.”

Greg is survived by his wife Monica of 39 years, two sons Grant Gaalema, Garin Gaalema, daughter Alyssa Rasnick, and seven grandchildren.  Greg also leaves behind three brothers.  No arrangements have been announced.  The Town and the Gaalema family ask that the community respect the privacy of the family during this difficult time.
