Town Roads Included in Proposed Denton County Bond Package

TRIP 22

The Town of Cross Roads attended the Denton County Commissioner's Court workshop Tuesday afternoon on the Transportation Road Improvement Program 2022 (TRIP 2022). In a letter from December 2021, Mayor Tompkins expressed concerns to TxDOT and County officials regarding the proposed economic impacts to the Town resulting from the ultimate widening of US 380. This also led to a request by the Town for Denton County’s assistance in funding some much-needed future road reconstruction projects as part of the proposed bond package. The draft proposal presented at the meeting included funding for all seven of the projects Cross Roads requested assistance for with a proposed participation of approximately $22.3 million for $26 million worth of projects.

The bond election is expected to be scheduled for the November 2022 general election. The Denton County Auditor informed the attendees that the bond issuance is not expected to increase the county tax rate due to the strong AAA rating and healthy fund balance.

Mayor Tompkins and the Town Council have been proactive in identifying the critical roadways through a Capital Improvement Program and Street Ranking Report conducted last fall. This document assisted the Council in identifying the thoroughfares to request assistance for earlier this year. If the project request remains the same and the road bond passes, the road construction would be scheduled over the next several years. Cross Roads is appreciative of Judge Eads and Commissioners Ryan Williams and Ron Marchant for their representation of Cross Roads in this project.

The roadways Cross Roads has requested assistance on include:

New Hope Road from Fish Trap to Bridle Ridge Ranch

Dr. Griffin from New Hope Road to US 377

Fish Trap Road from FM 424 to Dr. Sanders

Moseley Road from US 380 to Tipps

Keyes Lane from Tipps to Millcreek

Future East/West collector road south of US 380 from Potter Shop to Fm 720

The proposed bond project also includes other roadways in communities surrounding Cross Roads and unincorporated Denton County including Oak Grove Road. County Judge Andy Eads has included funds for the planning, specifications and estimates for US 377 from US 380 to the proposed outer loop as well as FM 2931 and FM 1385.
